hex bar crossbar 'not long enough now' cure!

Part number:
crossbar cure
Description:
I just replaced a pair of manifolds for another pair. Originally I was going to install part# 43-5209.
After setting the carbs on them and then setting them on the engine, I noticed that a 'deep offset' set of manifolds would be needed to work with the customers existing linkage.
I then bolted on part# 47-7334 and they were the correct offset as far as having the crossbar parallel the fan shroud, BUT they were not correct for the linkage to REACH each carb. Apparently the old manifolds were not only deep offset, but were also fan shroud huggers - they leaned in closer to the fan shroud than these modern manifolds do.
So, if YOU don't have a spare crossbar laying around either that you can easily trim and slip in, you may want to 'fix' the situation as I did here.
I removed the control arm from the 3-4 side of the crossbar and drilled the end with a Q size drill bit.
I then threaded the end of the crossbar with an 1/8 pipe thread.
I then used part# 650205 adapter which is also 1/8 pipe thread on the male end and a bubble flare on the female end. The female end is perfect for the ball end of the linkage piece.
I put red loctite on the male end of the adapter and screwed it into the crossbar.
Now I reassembled the linkage for a perfect fit.
