distributor vacuum advance f/ air cooled w/ single cannister & electronic Empi SVA

Part number:
9437-B
Your cost:
$103.90
Description:
Comes with a black cap. Clear is no longer used.

Single vacuum-advance distributor with electronic ignition already in it.
That means no more points or condensor!

Magnetic pickup with the Amplifier attached already.
Advance curve set for optimal performance with most VW engines.
The red wire goes to the positive side of your coil and the black wire goes to the negative side of the coil.
MUST be used with a coil with an internal resistor (like our part#s 17-2959, 30350, 9409-B & 9408-B) or an external ballast resistor (we don't sell) must be used.

LOOK for the + and the - marks on your coil BEFORE connection is made!

This will:
provide better acceleration
help eliminate the 'flat spot' on take-off
allow for cooler engine temps
give more power throughout the advance curve

Fits the following:
Some installs may require re-positioning either your pinion gear placement or relocation of your spark plug wires in the cap. A lot depends on whether or not your engine was assembled correctly to start with.

Doghouse recently installed one of these on a new 1776 build we did. Here's what we see:
the dist must go in with the vacuum pod facing the fan belt, otherwise the vacuum hose will be smashed into the manifold. Shown in the last 2 pics being used with a 38EGAS carb kit/manifold.

Due to our install experience, I would recommend that the distributor drive pinion gear be turned 1 tooth clockwise from the normal position. The normal position is with the offset slot in the pinion gear pointed at the rear most stud of the fuel pumps mounting studs (in other words, closest to the crank pulley). If you change it to 1 tooth clockwise of that position, I think you'll be happiest. Picture 7 of 7 shows our distributor mounted in the stock position. With the 38egas carb and a mechanical pump, we had the vacuum pod right up against the fuel pump to achieve 1 degree BTDC for timing. TDC is an acceptable position for this vacuum advance distributor.
