This car was a late friends of mine, that was a bit of a car collector.
Full time since new, Pahrump, Nevada car. No rust anywhere.
He bought it new in September 1998 (1999 model year) and only drove it occasionally over the 20 years he owned it.
Mostly it sat in his garage.

This car came from the factory with 20th century:
Air conditioning (brand new in 1998 = modern) No HP loss, just like a any other modern car with air.
4 speed manual transmission (brand new in 1998) YES IT'S A SWING AXLE IN AN IRS PAN. The trailing arm 'cups' are there in case you want to be IRS.
1.6L engine (brand new in 1998)
Locking engine lid (with key)
Fuel injection (brand new in 1998 = modern)
Factory installed fire extinguisher
Front disc brakes & rear drum brakes (all brand new in 1998)
High energy Hall style ignition system
Engine mounted, bypass filtered oil pump
Modern hydraulic lifters - no more adjusting the valves
Ball joint style front beam (new in 1998)
Entirely rebuilt to NEW, by Beetlemex, 1976 US registered pan. All of the new components from the 1998 Mexican factory bug & more, went onto the 1976 pan at the Beetlemex facility and the car is now NEVADA titled as a 1976. Long version of story is below
