deck height measuring kit includes the plate and 4 pieces of pipe and a measuring screw, for bug style cylinders only. Will not help you on a late bus (they're too big a stud pattern) engine.
If you don't use this kit or at the least, something like it, you can't know what your deck is. If you don't know your deck, you also don't know your compression ratio.
Empi packaged.
Use the pipe sections to hold down the plate on top of the cylinder. You'll use your own head washers and nuts to hold the cylinder down to 15# torque. Bring that piston up to tdc and measure the distance between the plate and the piston top by screwing in the measuring screw. 1/4 turn of the screw is .010, 1/2 is .020 and 3/4 is .030 and 1 full turn is .040.
